The role of a PADI Divemaster
The role of the Dive Master
- Supervise educational and non educational diving by planning, organising and leading dives independently.
- Assist a diving instructor during training sessions in confined and open water, for all course levels.
- Independently lead students from the open water course on the excursion portion of training dives 2, 3 and 4 during the open water course.
- Accompany open water diver students, under the indirect supervision of and instructor during surface swims, to and from the entry/exit points and during the navigation exercises on dive 4.
- Accompany students during the advanced open water diver course or training dives from a speciality diver course, under the indirect supervision of an instructor.
- Independently teach and certify PADI Skin Divers.
- Run PADI Discover snorkelling excursions.
- Conduct the subsequent dives of the DSD program, under the indirect supervision of an instructor, if the participants have successfully completed the first dive with an instructor.
- Run the PADI Discover Local Diving program.
- Conduct the PADI Scuba Review program for certified divers, or for PADI Scuba Divers who want to refresh their skills.
- Conduct the free diving skills from the PADI Open Water course in confined water during dives 2, 3, 4 or 5.
- Teach the Emergancy First Responder (EFR) course after having taken the EFR instructor course.
- If you are qualified as a DSD leader, independently conduct the DSD experience in a pool or confined water environment.
Prerequisites
- Be certified as a PADI Advanced open water diver or another recognised certification.
- Be certified as a PADI rescue diver or another recognised certification.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Submit as medical report signed by a doctor, confirming your suitability to dive. The medical certificate must be dated within the past year.
- Have logged at least 20 dives.
- Hold proof of participating in an ERF training course in primary care (CPR) and secondary care (or another recognised qualification with first aid and CPR training) dated within the last 24 months.
